Vacuuming carpets

When you vacuum, your house definitely improves in appearance, but if you really want your carpets to sparkle, then just vacuuming will not do the trick. Even though vacuuming will remove most dirt, it is important that you clean your carpet on a frequently to remove the oily, sticky dirt that vacuums do not remove.

These types of dirt occur from cooking fumes, air pollution, and tracked-in dirt from outside (something that we get a lot of in my home). The particles of oily dirt settling on carpet fibers can cause slow but a good amount of sizeable dulling of colours in your carpet. The colour did not disappear; it is hidden under the dirt. If the dirt just sits and builds up, it begins to draw and hold the dry dirt (yuck).

If carpet is cleaned before it becomes too horrid looking, your cleaning task will be easier and more successful. Carpet in a standard household should be cleaned every 12 to 18 months, depending on the number of people living there and amount activity going-on.

Choosing the right cleaning system is important. Some systems may leave residues, which accelerates dirt and defeats the whole purpose of cleaning. Research done on cleaning machines, products and so forth concluded that hot water extraction system provides the best result for cleaning.

This system is commonly referred to as "steam cleaning," although no steam is actually generated. The process consists of spraying a solution of water and detergent into the carpet pile and recovering the water and soil with a powerful vacuum into a holding tank.

This can be done from a truck-mounted unit outside the home with only the hose and wand brought inside or by a portable system brought into the home.
